Little known fact about vaginal anatomy.
The hymen, IT’S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE RIPPED/TORN/POPPED.
Theres this whole myth that the hymen is the membrane that is supposed to be “popped” when the have sex with a virgin. Therefore de-flowering them, and in most eyes, making them less “valuable”.
My god that is just awful. The hymen is more a thin membrane with an opening that is made to stretch when something is penetrating the vagina (Tampon, fingers, penis, sex toy, etc.). Someone will only bleed when the hymen is torn or ripped because their vagina was not lubricated enough when their partner entered them and their vagina was not given enough time to accommodate such a foreign intrusion. When someone has sex for the first time, the hymen is usually still pretty intact and so it is covering more of the inner vaginal opening. After regular insertion of something in there, the hymen will stretch out, making it much less likely to rip or tear or bleed. BUT, all bodies are different, all hymens are different, and they can stretch out in a number of ways, not just from sex.
Also, this isn’t a “virgin only” thing. If someone with a vagina does not have sex for a long time, their hymen can tighten back up and they should be mindful of that the next time they have sex because they will need to go slow and be very well lubricated to avoid discomfort.
So please remember people, when having sex for the first time (or the first time in a very long time) BE CAREFUL!! Use lube, go sloooooow, foreplay foreplay foreplay, and if it hurts- ease up!
